Avocado Oil

Avocado oil: a nourishing ingredient for skin and hair

Avocado oil is extracted from the flesh of the avocado and is one of the richest plant-based oils for skincare. The oil is packed with oleic acid, vitamins A, D and E and penetrates deeply into the skin. This makes avocado oil particularly suitable for dry, mature or damaged skin and for dry hair. We incorporate avocado oil in our conditioner bar for extra nourishment and shine.

Botany and History of avocado

The avocado tree is a member of the Lauraceae family, which also includes other popular fruits such as cinnamon and bay leaves. Avocado trees can grow up to 60 feet tall and produce fruit for over 30 years.

Avocados have been cultivated in Central America and Mexico for thousands of years. The ancient Aztecs and Mayans used avocados to make food, medicine, and cosmetics.

Today, avocado oil is still used for its many health and beauty benefits. It is a popular ingredient in natural skincare and hair care products.

The unrefined & organic avocado oil we use is produced from rejected avocados from a Kenyan farmer. This way, avocados get a second chance and together with Keyan farmers we work with against waste and towards a circular economy.

The oil is extracted by a cold pressing process from the pulp. Not from the pit, as many people think. This method leaves even more of the vitamins, minerals and healthy fatty acids originally present intact.

The 3 Benefits of Avocado Oil for Skin and Hair

1. Deeply nourishing for dry skin

Avocado oil penetrates deeper into the skin than most other plant-based oils. Its high oleic acid content makes it particularly suitable for dry, rough or flaky skin that needs extra nourishment.

2. Rich in vitamins A, D and E

These vitamins protect the skin against free radicals, support cell renewal and help keep the skin elastic and supple. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and slows signs of skin ageing.

3. Nourishes and restores hair

Avocado oil is one of the few oils that can also penetrate the hair shaft. It hydrates and nourishes the hair fibre from within, making hair softer, shinier and less prone to breakage. That is why avocado oil is in our conditioner bar.
