A circular economy is about eliminating waste by keeping raw materials in use for as long as possible. As a consumer you have a direct influence with every purchase you make. Here are 8 concrete tips to contribute.
How to contribute to a circular economy

- Own less, share more. Borrow instead of buy through clothing libraries, Peerby and other sharing platforms.
- Buy second-hand. Clothes, furniture, appliances. So much beautiful stuff already exists.
- Waste less food. In the Netherlands we throw away over 30% of all our food. Freeze leftovers or use them in soup.
- Give raw materials a new life. Every Nature Bar product contains a circular ingredient. Our Orange & Calendula soap bar is made with upcycled orange peel that would otherwise have been thrown away.
- Buy quality clothing. Fast fashion fades after a few washes. Invest in pieces that last.
- Repair rather than replace. Broken appliance? Take it to a repair cafe. Hole in your clothes? Visit a tailor.
- Hand in electrical appliances. Recycled electronics yield valuable raw materials for new products.
- Eat less meat. The meat industry has the highest CO2 emissions of any sector.
Why the circular economy matters
Global demand for raw materials is rising while availability is declining. A circular economy makes us less dependent on scarce resources and produces less waste. The Dutch government has set a target of a fully circular economy by 2050.
At Nature Bar we translate the circular principle directly into our products. No waste, only valuable raw materials given a second life. Discover our circular soap collection or learn more about our story at our soap making workshop in De Hallen, Amsterdam.
